Our Chemistry and Microbiology lab introduces the concept of the ‘bacterial pigments of life’. The research is fundamental science. We implement a fresh and multidisciplinary perspective on tetrapyrroles, aiming to contribute to the understanding of bacterial biology, to achieve scientific breakthroughs to improve human health, and to provide insights on the evolutionary history of life.
Currently, we are investigating the ‘bacterial pigments of life’ on the following bacteria and their diseases:
- Mycobacterium tuberculosis (tuberculosis)
- Mycobacterium bovis (bovine tuberculosis)
- Mycobacterium leprae (leprosy)
- Emerging and non‐tuberculous mycobacterial infections
